Set your phasers to fun because regional Victoria’s biggest pop culture convention is coming back to Shepparton.
Jim Gow, from Word and Mouth, and Greater Shepparton City Council are putting the final touches on Nerdmania 2016, after the inaugural event was a big hit last year.
The event is a celebration of comic books, science fiction, gaming and cosplay, but without the crowds of the big conventions of Supernova and Comic-Con, which can attract 30000 people.
Mr Gow said the event was not trying to be like the bigger festivals, which attract huge stars from TV and film.
‘‘You can never really compete with the Comic-Cons, this is more of a sample,’’ he said.
Vendors of memorabilia, action figures, games and all things pop-culture will come to Shepparton for the day.
Visitors will also be encouraged to get in on the action, with cosplay expected to be a big part of this year’s event.
‘‘I had people ask if it would be all right if we dressed in cosplay,’’ he said.
‘‘Be all right? It’s strongly encouraged.’’
As well as stalls, food trucks and gaming, Mr Gow said there would be further announcements closer to the date on the group’s Facebook page.
‘‘That keeps people up-to-date, we call it nerd leaks,’’ he said.
Nerdmania 2016 will be at the Shepparton Showgrounds on Saturday, July 23 from 10am to 5pm. For more information, go to www.facebook.com/wordandmouth.greatershepparton
