The G.R.A.I.N Store in Nathalia will feature two well-known artists at its next Making It artist talk and screening.
Sound artist Graeme Leak and Nathalia filmmaker Jacinta Scadden will speak, outlining their careers and achievements.
Mr Leak is an internationally renowned Australian-born United Kingdom-based musician, composer and instrument maker who has put his skills to great use throughout his career spanning almost four decades.
His current project involves him doing an artist in residency as part of Girgarre’s Small Towns Renewal Project.
‘‘I grew up with shed-inhabiting elders, so since those early days I began developing a resourcefulness around carpentry, decorating, repairs and odd jobs that has always stood me in good stead,’’ he said.
A classically trained percussionist and multi-instrumentalist, performer and director, Mr Leak’s Girgarre residency involves creating an outdoor musical installation, running music skills workshops and up-cycling found objects such as tin cans into playable instruments.
Ms Scadden started her career young and won the prestigious Simpson Prize when she was 15 years old.
Her talents include writing, directing and acting, and her talk will focus on the process of creating and developing film projects including feature and short films.
G.R.A.I.N Store curator and administrator Ken Wong said Making It was a step into unknown territory for the Nathalia community art centre.
‘‘We have presented many artist talks over the years, but I believe this is the first time we have presented two different artists in the same evening,’’ he said.
‘‘I think it will be interesting for the audience to see the parallels between what Graeme does as a sound-maker, and Jacinta does as a filmmaker, as well as comparing the development of an artist with decades of work behind them to a younger person making their way in their first decade.’’
The evening will finish with a question-and-answer segment aimed at allowing people to ask their own questions of both artists.
The Making It artist talk and screening will be held at The G.R.A.I.N Store in Nathalia on Wednesday, May 3, from 7pm.
