Swanpool and district community members have come up with a creative way to promote recycling.
Swanpool Arts Festival chairman Barry O’Connor will be launching the Swanpool Creative Recycled Art Prize (SCRAP) exhibition this August.
Mr O’Connor said the exhibition was believed to be the only one of its type in Victoria this year.
He said competition entries would include wearable and functional items, along with artistic creations using recycled, salvaged or repurposed materials.
He said the exhibition had been developed by community volunteers from the small rural hamlet of Swanpool as a way of playing their part in the recycling battle and focusing community attention on the issue of waste reduction.
Mr O’Connor said the $3500 major SCRAP award would be combined with seven other prizes of $500 each, offering professional and amateur artists an attractive incentive to get creative and participate.
Entry forms can be downloaded from www.swanpoolanddistrict.com.au and entries close on July 13.
Mr O’Connor said the SCRAP exhibition finalists would be on display in the Swanpool and District Memorial Hall from August 4 to 19.
Admission to the District Memorial Hall will be $5 for adults and $2 for students.
